Metocean data management
Collection, quality control, storage and archiving of your metocean records so they stay complete and easy to use.
A metocean record is valuable for decades. Design teams return to it, regulators may ask for it and the next project at the same site will need it. Geomarins manages metocean data from the moment it is measured to the day it is archived, so it stays complete, checked and easy to use.
Collection
Data arrives in many ways: live over satellite, cellular or radio links, in files uploaded from loggers, or downloaded from instruments at a service visit. We bring every source into one place, record where each value came from and keep the original files untouched alongside the processed record.
Quality control
Raw instrument data contains errors. A sensor may spike, freeze on one value, drift slowly or report impossible numbers when a buoy is lifted out of the water. Our quality control checks each record for:
- Values outside physical or instrument limits
- Sudden spikes and steps that do not match the conditions
- Flat lines where a sensor has stopped responding
- Timing problems such as gaps, duplicates and clock drift
- Consistency between related parameters, such as wind and waves
Each value is flagged as good, suspect or bad, so users can choose how to treat it. Nothing is silently deleted.
Storage and archiving
Checked data is stored in a structured database with full history, backed up and kept secure. Each dataset carries its metadata: instrument, location, depth, sampling, calibration and any events that affect the record, such as a service visit or a period when the buoy was off station. That is what makes a record usable years later by someone who was not there.
Access
Managed data is available on your Geomarins dashboard and can be delivered as spreadsheets or other file formats on request. When a project needs statistics or reports, our data analysis and reference document services work directly from the managed record.
What you get
- One managed record for all your stations
- Quality control with good, suspect and bad flags
- Original files kept alongside processed data
- Full metadata for each instrument and deployment
- Secure, backed-up storage and long-term archiving
- Data delivery on the dashboard and as files
Frequently asked questions
Can you take over data we have already collected?
Yes. We can bring historical files into the managed record, check them with the same quality control and archive them with the new data.
Do you delete bad data?
No. Values are flagged, not deleted, and the original files are kept, so the full record can always be reviewed.
