Weather forecasting support
Site-specific forecasts and weather windows that help you plan marine and offshore work safely.
Marine operations live and die by the weather. A crane lift, a vessel transfer, a pipe pull or a buoy deployment each has a limit on wind, waves and current. Geomarins provides weather forecasting support that helps you plan work inside those limits and stop before conditions turn.
What forecasting support includes
- Site-specific forecasts of wind, gusts, waves, swell, currents and weather
- Weather windows: when conditions are expected to stay within your operational limits
- Daily or more frequent forecast updates during critical operations
- Live comparison of forecasts with measured data from your site
- Advice for go or no-go decisions on time-critical work
Why local measurements matter
Global forecast models do not see every local effect. Swell arriving from distant South Atlantic storms, squall lines moving in from the land and changes in currents near river mouths can all differ from what a model shows. When a site has its own buoy or weather station, we use the measurements to check the forecast every day and to warn you when reality is moving away from the prediction.
Planning before the job
Before a campaign starts, our data analysis service can show how often suitable weather windows occur in each month at your site. That lets you choose the best season, size the vessel spread and set realistic contingency.
During the job
During operations, forecasts arrive in a simple format built around your limits: clear periods where work can proceed, marginal periods and periods to avoid. When a measured value approaches a limit, you know straight away on the Geomarins dashboard.
What you get
- Site-specific forecasts for your location
- Weather window tables against your operational limits
- Updates through critical operations
- Forecast checks against live measurements
- Seasonal workability planning before the job
Frequently asked questions
Do you need an instrument at our site to forecast?
No, but it helps. Forecasts can be issued for any location; a local buoy or weather station lets us check and correct the forecast every day.
Can forecasts be set to our vessel limits?
Yes. We set the forecast around your own limits for wind, waves and current, so each period is marked as workable, marginal or not workable.
